Paul De Gurse is a Winnipeg-based music director, keyboard player, audio engineer, and composer. He works primarily as a theatre musician across Canada. He has been nominated for a Merritt Award for Outstanding Music Direction (Beauty and the Beast, Neptune Theatre) and a Winnipeg Theatre award for best design (Sound Design, The Whipping Man – Winnipeg Jewish Theatre).
Paul works as a music professional across Canada. In 2012 he earned a Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree from the University of Manitoba. Through Rainbow Stage’s creative mentorship program, he has studied under veteran Canadian theatre conductors Jeffrey Huard, Elizabeth Baird and Stephen Woodjetts. Since then, his work as a music director and conductor for musical theatre productions has taken him to theatres across Canada, including Rainbow Stage, Drayton Entertainment, Neptune Theatre, and Toronto’s Acting Up Stage Company. In 2018, he co-founded the Village Conservatory for Music Theatre, a post-secondary arts education program and new work incubator. In addition to his work as a musical theatre conductor, Paul is an active freelance keyboard player, composer, arranger and vocal coach.
